High Street Party @ Henfield High Street
Jun 27 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Come to Henfield High Street on Sunday 27 June for food, music and fun for the whole family!

You’ll find street-food vendors like the little Indian food tuk-tuk from Sakala in Steyning, shops open and welcoming old and new customers and a cracking barbie provided by the guys at South Downs Butchery in the Post House Café garden. You’ll find local folk duo Will and Wolfie playing under a gazebo outside the Henfield Club and their great bar stocking lot of local beers will be open to all, while at Stokes the garden will host a Children’s Talent Contest.

Local pubs will all be open and the cafés will be serving delicious food. The High Street will be decked with summertime bunting and beautiful coordinated floral displays – big, bright, bold and beautiful!

If you venture round to the Henfield Hall Garden you’ll find Nick and his Circus Tricks with lots of fun entertainment for the children while the grown-ups enjoy a drink at the bar. You’ll also find Helena Hunt and her beautiful flowers, children can make some floral crowns to celebrate the summertime at her workshop. There will be a candyfloss stall at Marcus Grimes and if you venture down Cagefoot Lane you’ll hear the brass band music of Brass Fusion playing in the grounds of Red Oaks Care home – pop in to see them, there will be lots of fun things to do, and lots cake of course.

A huge thank you to Stevens Estate Agents, Perry Plumbers & Perry Electrics and Richwards Estate Agents for sponsoring the music and children’s activities. This event is a collective of many High Street businesses working together. Thank you especially to Alison Egan from Relish for organising the entertainment and Oliver Borrow from Post House Café and the Henfield Traders for their participation and support.

Remember we’re still under Covid-19 restrictions so please keep your distance, be mindful of others and wear a mask indoors. The event will be mainly outdoors but please avoid over-crowding. Thank you.

Summer of Sound at Wakehurst @ Wakehurst Place
Jul 9 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Summer of Sound at Wakehurst

This summer Wakehurst will be brought alive by a symphony of sounds in their major new programme Summer of Sound. As you weave your way through Wakehurst’s wild landscape, you’ll discover six playful, innovative installations from award-winning artists, each offering moments to reconnect and restore your relationship with nature. Highlights include the UK premiere of mobile phone-activated robotic woodpeckers from Marco Barotti, giant wooden megaphones from Estonian artist Birgit Õigus, and two water-based sound installations from 2020 Ivor Novello Award for Sound Art winner Kathy Hinde. Championing the rich diversity of Wakehurst’s multiple habitats, the artworks offer an incredible range of sonic encounters from catching whispers of the forest, to uncovering voices from deep underwater.

In Summer of Sound: After Hours, Wakehurst opens to the public for four nights, offering a rare opportunity to experience the gardens and installations at sundown. Complete with captivating live performances, open-air cooking, and botanical cocktails, Summer of Sound: After Hours forms the perfect midsummer date or night out with friends. Throughout the summer, there will also be a series of interactive workshops for adults and children to enjoy from learning how to talk to birds, and writing Wakehurst-inspired songs, to Deep Listening Walks led by participating artist Kathy Hinde.

Tickets are on sale now from www.kew.org/wakehurst/whats-on/summer-of-sound . Summer of Sound runs from 9 July – 12 September 2021, 10am – 6pm, included in day ticket price (£14.50 adults, £7.25 17-25yrs; children free). Summer of Sound: After Hours runs from 12 – 15 August, £15. Pre-booking essential.

Horsham Art Trail @ 11 Causeway
Jul 10 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Please see website for all event locations. 11, Causeway is exhibiting Henfield artist Alison Crowe’s jewellery.

Local artists and makers are getting together over the first two weekends in July (3/4th and 10th/11th) to create the Horsham Artists Art Trail. With around 35 participating artists in 14 locations, the trail will be an exciting and vibrant mix of art and design across the Horsham district.

Free to visit and with Covid-19 safety firmly in mind, visitors will find a warm welcome and something different and distinctive in each venue. The range of creativity on show is hugely diverse, from original paintings, lino prints, ceramics and textiles, to sculpture, upcycled crafts, jewellery and more. With so much variety, there will be something to appeal to every taste. Work by Henfield jeweller Alison Crowe will be on show at 11, The Causeway in Horsham Town Centre.

A specially designed map of all the Art Trail venues will be available to view and download at www.horshamartists.org enabling visitors to plan their visits to studios and exhibition venues. The Art Trail provides visitors with a unique opportunity to meet the artists and makers and talk with them about their choice of materials and the different ways in which they approach their work.

The locations range from stalls in Carfax marketplace in Horsham town centre, to peaceful village locations. Venues will be easy to spot as they will have the Art Trail’s distinctive turquoise logo displayed outside. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm.  For up-to-the-minute information, visit www.horshamartists.org, Instagram: @horshamartists, Facebook: HorshamArtists and Twitter: @HorshamArtists.
