We are very excited to welcome the acclaimed novelist Tessa Hadley to Steyning for the first time! Tessa Hadley has been called “literary fiction’s best kept secret”. She is the author of six highly praised novels including ‘A Clever Girl’, and ‘The Past’, as well as two collections of short stories. Tessa will be speaking about her new book ‘Late in the Day’, a darkly intricate novel which explores what happens when the 30-year bond between a quartet of close friends comes unglued, after one of them dies unexpectedly. A rare chance to hear one of the most respected voices in British literary fiction, who just keeps going from strength to strength. Tickets are £10 with a voucher towards the new novel just out in hardback. Advance booking recommended.

As part of the Horsham Year of Culture, Mike Russel is giving a talk entitled “Swifts. Devil Birds”. Swifts are a migratory birds that come to the UK from southern Africa each year to breed. Mike has spent all his working life in wildlife conservation and birds including 30 years at the Sussex Wildlife Trust. He now works freelance organising and leading “birding” holidays all over the world.

The 2019 World Day of Prayer (formerly known as the Women’s World Day of Prayer) is a yearly service and is prepared by the women of a different country: this year it is Slovenia’s turn. The service is a mixture of prayers, readings, and hymns, including music from the country preparing the service, and prayers reflecting the thoughts and hopes of the women of that nation. Refreshments will be served after the service and ALL are welcome!
The Friends of St Peter’s Henfield will be hosting an Organ Recital by Stephen Davies. Stephen is a Music Scholar of Queen’s College, Oxford. He has since been active both in the field of music education and as an organ recitalist. In this capacity he has given concerts in major venues worldwide.
Stephen will be performing an entertaining mix of classical and lighter popular music.

Jumble can be delivered to Henfield Hall in the morning or collected by contacting David Marshall 01403 710517 after 25 February. There will be an auction at 2.30 pm, cakes, raffle, tombola and refreshments. All in aid of Henfield Guide Hut.
This is aimed at primary school aged children and parents. People are free to arrive whenever it suits them. We will be serving pancakes with loads of different toppings as well as having pancake games!
All members of the public are invited and encouraged to come along and make their views known to the Parish Council. Council will also take the opportunity to update those attending on a number of issues currently of interest in the village, such as the Henfield Common Ten-Year Management Plan, which has a number of exciting proposals.
In addition, there will be short presentation on ‘Connector Plus,’ which is a group set up by the Medical Centre to recruit volunteers who can support and befriend isolated residents. Discover the ‘Hidden Henfield – Henfield Trails,’ which is an exciting new project for Henfield residents and will hopefully attract new visitors into the village centre.
The formal part of the proceedings will commence at 7:30pm, but please come along from 7:00pm onwards to see the displays in the Hall about the Parish Council’s work and why Henfield is such a great place to live!! Parish Councillors will be available after the meeting for an informal chat and light refreshments will be provided.
