Friends of St Peter’s Talk @ Catholic Church Hall
Oct 24 @ 7:30 pm

The Friends of St. Peter’s Church are delighted to present a talk by local historian Dr. Janet Pennington, entitled “Witches, Warlocks, and Wellingtons”.  Significantly timed for the week before Halloween, this talk will focus on how our ancestors ritually protected themselves, their homes, and their animals from the malign influence of witches and other dark forces.  We are all familiar with the “lucky horseshoe”, but what is its exact significance?  And what other objects, images, and plants were used by Sussex folk to ward off evil and to bring good luck?  Dr. Pennington will bring along a range of some of these mysterious items to be displayed and handled, and will also invite audience members to bring their own objects.

If you would like to know more about the Friends of St Peter’s Church or become a member, see our Clubs & Groups entry.
