2023 was a great year to be a Guide!

5th March 2024

My name is Chloe and I have been a Guide for over a year. I wanted to share a few highlights of 2023 with you.

In October we went to Brussels in Belgium for a few days, and it was amazing! We played a massive game of Trivial Pursuit with about 500 other Guides and Rangers from different countries. We had to get six pieces of “pie” by doing different activities and challenges whilst going around the beautiful streets of Brussels. It was a great way to see the famous sights of the city including the little boy fountain and the European parliament. My favourite challenge was eating waffles!

The following day we went to mini Europe which was really cool and had lots of interesting things like a working rocket and an earthquake simulator. In the afternoon we did a chocolate workshop where we made and learnt about chocolate. We stayed in an apartment and spent the evenings chatting and drinking hot chocolate. It was such a great way to spend a few days with my friends.

We also camped overnight at the Guide Hut in Henfield and went to Blacklands Farm for the day. It turned out to be the coldest weekend of the year, so we camped indoors! At Blacklands Farm we did lots of fun activities such as abseiling, rock climbing, lantern making and baking. The next morning, we cooked our breakfast outside on the campfire, which was the perfect way to start our day.

During the year we did lots of other fun outdoor activities like kayaking, night-time walks around Henfield, and marshmallow toasting on the open fire. We joined in the village Remembrance Day parade. We also went carol singing just before Christmas and raised over £500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

On top of that, we did some really cool things indoors last year such as jam making, baking, and lots of arts and crafts. Some of the things I crafted made great presents for my family. I loved helping out at a village jumble sale. It was busy but really enjoyable, and I got some bargains of my own!

I really enjoyed last year at Guides and am looking forward to finding out what interesting activities we have planned for 2024, do you want to join me? Or help my leaders run all these amazing activities?
