Sussex Prairies hosts Bazaar for a Month of Colour

25th July 2022

Throughout August, there’s a treat in store when you visit Sussex Prairies – the amazing Bazaar market of all things Indian will be resident on the Prairie! Nestled amongst the swathes of Prairie planting is a cluster of marquees, a riot of colourful textiles, antiques, jewellery and clothing. Discover all the treasures and be instantly transported to the markets of Rajasthan; Bazaar is a feast for the senses!

Enjoy a delicious curry, try your hand at block printing or attend a sunset event — listening to a Sitar and Tabla duo and dance with a Bhangra troupe! Browse colourful Indian textiles, block printed cotton clothing, semi-precious jewellery, vintage silks and be inspired by interesting gifts and haberdashery. Take home a little piece of authentic India at a very affordable price.

Bazaar is a small travelling business that has grown from festivals and markets with its far reaching and long-standing trading links with craftspeople in India and Nepal. Joanna Hall, textile designer and founder of Bazaar, has made it her mission to seek out the people behind the products she sells. She has spent 30 years working directly in workshops across northern India, with weavers, dyers, block printers, embroiderers, tailors, master pattern cutters, stone cutters, silver smiths, wood carvers and handmade paper makers — the list is long!

We are pretty sure everyone in Henfield has visited Sussex Prairies at least once (and many are season ticket holders), but if by chance you haven't this is the perfect opportunity. It’s set in a 32 acre farm, with stunning horticultural delights, sculptures, award-winning architecture, wonderful plant nursery and lots of room to roam. You can take a picnic or have a curry, ‘Kesari Dhabba’ will be serving authentic vegetarian curries and delicious teas and home-made cake will be available, as always, from the Sussex Prairies' tea shop.
