Last month we reported that Compass Travel had removed the Number 17 Sunday and Bank Holiday service from their schedule, meaning no Sunday bus service from Brighton to Horsham via Henfield and Partridge Green from mid September.
Local coach and bus company Sussex Coaches have stepped in to save the service, with a slightly altered timetable (see below).
“Sussex Coaches are pleased to announce that we will be operating the Sunday service on route 17 between Brighton & Horsham via Patcham, Henfield, Partridge Green, Cowfold and Mannings Heath. Following an approach from Brighton Area Bus watch, highlighting the plight of the soon to be withdrawn Sunday service, we have stepped in to offer a commercial service starting on Sunday 17 September.
“We felt it was an extremely valuable service to the public and whilst we could not offer the existing frequency of service on a Sunday, we could offer a reduced frequency timetable to keep the service in operation on a Sunday.
“Services will depart from Horsham to Brighton at 09:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30 15:30, and 17:30 with a short service to Henfield by request at 18:15. Services will depart Brighton at 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:40, with a morning short service to Horsham departing from Henfield at 08:30 and 09:30.
“Sussex Coaches already run the successful N8 weekend night bus from Brighton to Horsham and local services in the Horsham area. More information can be found on our Facebook page or by calling Sussex Coaches on 01403 741976. Stagecoach will continue to operate the Monday – Saturday service.”
Thank you Sussex Coaches. Please support this Sunday service as much as you can to help them to make the route economically viable.
