Henfield Helpline: For those self-isolating due to COVID-19

If you are self-isolating due to the COVID-19 emergency, there is help at hand for you if you live in Henfield.

Thank you for being responsible and taking care of your health and that of your friends, family and the local community. Your actions help our local medical services as well as the wider NHS and will help in the fight against this deadly virus.

You may be self-isolating if you are in the ‘vulnerable’ category, if you are over 70 and / or with underlying health issues. You may be self-isolating because you feel unwell or have one or more of the COVID-19 symptoms. If so, you will need help and Henfield Helpers are here for you. You are not alone.

Do you need:

  • Delivery of your prescription medicines?
  • Shopping for essential food and household items?*
  • Dog walking?
  • A friendly voice a the end of the phone if you are feeling a little lonely?

If so, please email Henfield Helpline helpline@henfieldhub.com or call 01273 494420 from 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday, and one of the Henfield Helpline volunteers will ask for some details and match your need with a local volunteer near you.

Please be as clear as you can with your request and state your full name, address and phone number. Put the title ‘I need help’ in the subject field if you are emailing.

  • Henfield Helpers are local volunteers; your neighbours, friends and kind people who live in Henfield who want to help our village at a time of crisis. They are to help you, but they are NOT trained medical personnel or carers. 
  • This service will be in high demand so please make sure your request is reasonable and not trivial, e.g. ESSENTIAL grocery shopping or medicine collection. *Do not call if you can shop online or by using local delivery services (a list of these services is available on local websites, social media and in future local publications).
  • Henfield Helpers will not cross the threshold of your property and will follow social distancing (2m) guidelines. 
  • This is not a paid service – but you will be expected to pay for the goods purchased and if travel is involved you may need to make a fuel contribution.
  • You must live in the Henfield Parish to use the Henfield Helpline. Other Parish Councils and villages are running similar schemes.
  • If you are unable to purchase essential food items, please contact the Henfield Food Bank by calling 0300 124 0204.  

Henfield Helpline, how can I volunteer to help?


Henfield needs you, please, please volunteer to support the local residents who are self-isolating if you can. Remember, by their isolation they are breaking the chain and helping to keep your family healthy and helping to ease the burden on our NHS.

You can pledge as much or as little time as you wish, many hands will make light work!

The Henfield Helpers have already been out in force, putting ‘I Can Help’ leaflets with their phone numbers through Henfield letterboxes, thank you to all these volunteers, this hard work is important. But there is more to do.

Can you:

  • Deliver someone’s much needed medicine from the local pharmacy?
  • Collect some essential groceries for someone?
  • Donate some store-cupboard food items to someone in need?
  • Walk someone’s dog for them?
  • Have a chat on the phone to someone to brighten their day?

If so, please email Henfield Helpline helpline@henfieldhub.com or call 01273 494420 from 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday and one of the Henfield Helpline volunteers will ask for some details and match your offer of help with a person in need near you.

Please state your full name, address and phone number and if you are able to drive. Please list the help you are able to give. Put the title ‘I can volunteer’ in the subject field if you are emailing.

  • Please do not volunteer to help if you are in the ‘at risk’ group yourself, unless it is for telephone contact. 
  • Please do not volunteer to help if you or anyone in your household are showing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. 
  • Do not enter the homes of people who are self-isolating even if you are invited to do so, all deliveries must be doorstep and following social distancing (2m) guidelines.
  • If you are unable to continue helping or if you are showing symptoms of COVID-19 at any time, please call immediately to remove yourself from the volunteer register.
  • Henfield Helpers recognise the current Govt advice for EVERYONE to avoid social contact. This helpline is for essential needs only. 

Don’t forget, even if you can’t volunteer, it is free to give a cheery wave and smile to a neighbour who may be self-isolating. If you know someone in your street, please send them a message, or make a phone call, or wave to them through the window. You could even ask one of your children to draw a colourful picture for them. It really does help.

 Henfield Helpline: who are we?

Henfield Helpline has been set up by a group of local volunteers supported by local community organisations, including Henfield Parish Council, Henfield Community Partnership, St Peter’s Church, Henfield Haven, The BP Guild, Impact Initiatives, The Self Help Group, BN5 Magazine and the Henfield Hub. They are all working together to help the village remain as healthy as possible during the coronavirus emergency. If you are a local community organisation and would like to help, please email your interest.

Henfield Helpline is a remote service operating from the Henfield Haven (no visitors please). It is a simple concept of matching volunteer help to those in need. Matches will be made by location and by matching what service is required to the volunteer skill.

Volunteers organised by St Peter’s Church are looking after residents who are struggling with loneliness during this extended period of isolation. It is recognised that this type of telephone help is just as important as physical help, but is sometimes harder to ask for. Please do not hesitate – these circumstances are unusual and we will all need support from each other.

Please be patient and understanding, this is a new service and we will make mistakes and perhaps we will be overwhelmed with requests. Please show your goodwill and let the volunteers know you are grateful for their time if you use the service.

Henfield Helpline does not have any official funding and is being run entirely with the power of goodwill and community.

We are in changing times. The Henfield Helpline pledges to be as fluid and responsive as it possibly can be and help as many people as it can. Needs or restrictions on volunteers may change and we will update this information whenever this happens.

Henfield Helpers will at all times work in line with Government guidelines on social distancing and self-isolation.
