Following the success of the Piazza Italia District Tours in 2015 and 2017, something extra special is being planned by Henfield Community Partnership for the Year of Culture in 2019. The District Showcase Tour on Sunday 24 March 2019 will see 40 cool cars on tour around the villages of West Sussex.
Local car clubs and motoring organisations have been approached to provide as wide a range of interesting cars as possible including: eight supercars; eight American cars; eight air-cooled engine cars; and eight interesting cars from the heydays of British motoring.
The tour will set off from Christ’s Hospital School (following a private driver’s breakfast), and visit the district stopping on the way at Billingshurst (10.45-11.30am); Pulborough (11.40 – 12.25pm); Storrington (12.40-1.45pm); Steyning (2-2.45pm) and finally in Henfield (3-3.45pm).
Henfield is planning a fantastic pit-stop for the tour and the organisers have arranged to close the High Street temporarily so the cars can be displayed. The shops will be decorated with flags and bunting and there will be a range of other local vehicles on display on the High Street before the tour arrives. These will include vintage cars from local company Pilgrim Motorsports as well as a rally car from Coles Automotive, who are sponsors of the Henfield event.
Why not make a day of it? There will be plenty of street food available (including Ginger Rookes, Caphe Republic Vietnamese, Gelato Geminelli Italian ice cream and cream teas at The Free Church) and the High Street café’s and pubs will be serving food and drinks from lunch time onwards. There will also be street entertainers, BN5 magazine is running a car themed window dressing competition for the High Street shops and the White Hart will be hosting the Soho Village Jazz Band from 3.30pm.
At 2pm, organisers plan to close the High Street between the Shell Garage and the Church Street junction, until 4pm. The District Tour cars will arrive at 3pm and will park up through the High Street for 45 minutes and visitors will be able to view them. At 3.45pm, the District Tour will leave the Henfield High Street.
More information on the timings and exact route of the tour, will be posted on social media. If you’re a classic car owner and would like to display your car, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. The organisers are encouraging visitors to walk to the village if possible. If you need to drive, both car parks will be free of charge, but please be aware that you won’t be able to access them between 2pm and 4pm.
