Woodmancote & Henfield W I are a thriving group who have been in existence in the village since 1991.  We currently have a membership of between 40 and 50 members  and women of all ages are very welcome to join.  You may like to pop along to one of our monthly meetings as a visitor (details of our programme appear in BN5 every month) before deciding to become a member.

We usually welcome a speaker to our meetings and aim to cover a wide range of topics throughout the year’s programme.  We end our meetings with some time to get to know one another, whilst we enjoy a cup of tea and cake! We also have additional groups for members including a reading group, craft group, Scrabble and walking groups.

Although we have an elected committee to lead the group locally, we welcome ideas and input from all our members in what interests them and what we should take part in.

Members are charged an annual subscription, which covers a calendar year, however, should you choose to join mid way through the year, this is reduced pro rata. The W I Is a national body, made up of County Federations (ours being the West Sussex Federation).  We aim to make a positive difference to peoples’ lives by education and promoting topics of particular concern, of national importance, via a resolutions procedure arranged by the National Federation of W Is.

Members do not need to have any skills to join, but we hope that they gain not only good friends but also knowledge and a variety of skills from the Womens’ Institute. The WI owns a training facility, Denman, in Oxfordshire, where a huge variety of courses are held, both day courses and residential.  This provides a wonderful opportunity for members to study courses of particular interest to them, throughout the year.  In addition the West Sussex Federation arrange many day events where members can take part and learn new skills and/or knowledge.

Locally, we take part each Autumn in the Henfield Charities Fair and on alternate years are very involved in the Henfield Summer Fayre .  We do look forward to welcoming visitors to our meetings and hope that they will then want to join us by becoming a member of Woodmancote & Henfield W I.
