Are you interested in finding out more about the Shipley area, Local History, Regional History, Historical Research, Lectures and Walks?Shipley History Society aim to encourage interest in both local and regional history by holding regular lectures and walks, and undertaking local research.
If you have an interest in local and regional history and want to discuss your passion with like minded individuals, we welcome new members. Annual membership fee is £10 per person, which covers all talks and walks, including refreshments. The society welcomes visitors at a fee of £3 per talk, £1 per walk.
Programme for 2020
Thursday 20th February 2020: historian of the Templars, Oliver Tempest, will give a talk on the History of the Knights Templar in Sussex. Oliver visited the Shipley Village Day in May and delighted us with his knowledge of Templar history.
Thursday 16th April 2020: A welcome return of historian Helen Poole who will give a talk on Sussex during the Elizabethan Era.
Thursday 18th June 2020 at 6 pm: a guided tour conducted by Peter Sanderson recalling the history of Shipley Church followed by our annual summer evening social. This will be hosted by Colin and Lucy West at the Old Vicarage. Meet at the Church.
September 2020: A visit to the Music Box Museum at Bucks Green. Date and details will be confirmed later.
