Please come and join the very informal 'Friday Friends' to play short mat bowls. The game is basically the same as lawn bowls except that we keep dry even on wet days! A good place to come on a damp winter morning. We have four 'mats' which accommodate up to 32 players, so usually everyone that turns up gets a game. This is a really friendly group of bowls enthusiasts and the game is not expensive - we pay £3 for the morning, which includes coffee. We are not a formal club, but a cooperative group of enthusiastic and friendly players.
It is not energetic, but suitable for everyone. Some of our members have been with us for a long time and still enjoy it for as long as they can. In the spring we hold an 'all day competition day', a good way to win some prizes, to be awarded at one of our sociable lunches.
The game is really enjoyable without the effort involved in bowling out on the grass but with just as much satisfaction. It is quite a challenge to get it right so that on a day, when you have played well it is really very fulfilling. Do come and give it a try - we are very welcoming and would love you to join us any Friday morning to have a look. You will get a free coffee at least and you might well get hooked for the rest of your life!
